TermDefinition
Translation A slide of a figure
Rotation A turn of a figure either clockwise or counter-clockwise
Reflection A flip of a figure across an axis or line
Dilation A reduction or enlargement of a figure
Congruent Having the same shape and/or measurement
Similarity Two figures that are the same shape but a different size
Exterior Angles Angles located outside of (above or below) the parallel lines.
Interior Angles Angles located inside of the parallel lines.
Alternate Interior Angles Angles on opposite sides of the transversal located inside the two lines cut by the transversal. They are congruent to each other.
Alternate Exterior Angles Angles on opposite sides of the transversal located outside the two lines cut by the transversal. They are congruent to each other.
Corresponding Angles Angles located in the same relative position on the two lines cut by the transversal. They are congruent to each other.
Same-side Interior Angles Two angles that sit either on the left or the right side of the transversal in between the two parallel lines.
Vertical Angles Opposite angles formed by intersecting lines. These angles are congruent to each other.
Complementary Two angles whose sum is 90˚.
Supplementary Two angles whose sum is 180˚
Transversal A line that intersects two or more other lines
Parallel Lines Two lines that never intersect (they must run side by side)
Right Triangle A triangle that has one 90 degree angle.
Hypotenuse The longest side of a right triangle that is opposite of the right angle.
Legs The two perpendicular sides that create the right angle.
Radius Extends from the center of the circle to one side of the circle. (It only goes halfway)
Volume The amount of space enclosed inside a figure. (think of filling a pool)
Height Vertical distance (must run up and down)
