volume the amount of space taken up or occupied by an object
meniscus the curve that you see at a liquid's surface
mass the amount of matter that someting is made of
cubic having three dimensions
physical property a property of matter that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the matter
chemical property a property of matter that describes a substance's ability to change into a new substance with different properties
characteristic property a property of matter for a substance that does not depend on the amount of that substance
density the amount of matter in a given space, or volume. Also mass per unit volume
chemical change when one or more substances are changed into entirely new substances with different properties
physical change a change that affects one or more physical properties of a substance
flammability a substance's ability to burn, or not burn
reactivity a substance's ability to react with another substance, or not react
malleability the ability to be pounded into thin sheets
ductility the ability to be pulled or drawn into a wire
solubility the ability to dissolve into another substance
chemical reaction when substances break apart or combine to form one or more new substances
precipitate a solid substance that forms in a solution
chemical bond a force that holds two atoms together in a molecule
chemical formula shows which elements and how many of them are found in a molecule of a substance
subscript a number that tells you how many atoms of an element are in a molecule
chemical equation uses chemical symbols and formulas as a short way to show what happens in a chemical reaction
reatcants the starting materials in a chemical reaction
products the substances that form during a chemical reaction
Law of Conservation of Mass a law that states that mass cannot be lost or gained during a chemical reaction

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
