Statistics
| Term | Definition |

| Population | A set of members for which data are to be collected and analyzed with the purpose of drawing some conclusions about the population. |
| Census | A study that gains information about every member of a population. |
| Sampling | Choosing a portion of the population to study which resembles the entire population. |
| Variability | How spread out a group of data is and how they vary from each other. Can be high or low. |
| Mean | The average of the data values for a sample. Adding the numbers together and then dividing by the numbers in the set. |
| Median | The middle data value of a sample. If two numbers fall in the middle, you add then divide by 2. |
| Mode | The data value that occurs the most often in a sample. |
| Range | The difference of the highest data value and the lowest data value in a sample. |
| Random Sample | A sample that is formed by selecting individuals from the population at random. |
| Inference | Drawing a conclusion from random data values. |
| Bias | Intentional or unintentional favoring of one group or outcome over others in a population. |
| Quartile | Values that divide a distribution into 4 equal groups, each having an equal amount of observations. |
| Interquartile Range (IQR) | The distance between the first and third quartiles. |
