Roots of Government in NC

Unicameral A legislature with one house or part
Bicameral A legislature with two houses or parts
Federal System The sharing of power between state and federal governments
Preamble The opening section f the constitution
Popular Sovereignty Government that is completely controlled by the people
Checks and Balances A system in which each branch of government is able to check, or restrain, the power of others
Amend A change to the Constitution
Suffrage Right to vote
Segregation The social split of races
Civil Rights The rights of full citizenship and equality under the law
Boycotts To refuse to buy or ban
Separation of Powers Each branch has it's own responsibilities and prevents the others from getting too powerful
