Why is UTI more common in women? Women have a shorter urethra so its easier for bacteria to penetrate 2ndary to lack of hygiene after toileting
S&S of UTI (7) urinary retention, frequency, urgency, blood in urine, burning upon urination, low grade fever, low back pain
What antibiotic treats UTI? What is the side effect? cipro. Change in urine color (It is your responsibility to warn consumer about this)
Other than antibiotics what else can help in tx process of UTI? (3) 1.Encourage consumer to drink alot to flush out system 2.Avoid foods high in calcium (to avoid stone formation. (Avoid Dairy) 3. Provide pain meds ie:peridium or Tylenol
Anticonvulsants are used to tx? (2) seizures behavior
#1 priority when consumer is seizing is? safety
Anticonvulsants (3) Depakote (Depakine-liquid version), Dilantin, Diastat Lamictal (DDD)
Define Aura begining of seizure ie: consumer turns pale, starts to space
why do ppl have seizures? head injury, brain infection (meningitis), brain tumor, high fever
What do you do when consumer has seizure (3) 1.make sure consumer is safe 2. loosen any clothing ie: tie belt 3. Lay consumer on side if having difficultly breathing
Disadvantage of Amphetamines (2) produce tolerance and dependendancy (addictive)
Amphetamine (1) Ritalin
Anticoagulant/blood thinner (1) Coumadin
Anti Anxiety Meds (2) Valium Xanax
What meds tx EPS (4) Akineton, Artane, high doses of Benadryl, Cogentin
Antipsychotics (3) Haldol, Thorazine, Zyprexa, Risperdol, Seroquel (T*SH)
All consumers go for blood work at least _ times per year. Consumers who are being monitored can go as often as every_ months annual. 3-6months
What 2 meds cause EPS? Any 2 antipsychotics ie: Haldol, Zyprexa

What is used to tx a consumer who is Bipolar/Manic Depressive? Lithium
How can a Diabetic control or regulate blood sugar levels? (4) 1.Diet 2.meds 3.excercise 4.physical well being ie: check skin often for ulcers
Whatis used to treat Diabeties (4) 1.Oral Hyperglycemic 2.Insulin 3.Diet 4.Excercise
S&S of excess stomach acid (3) burning in stomach, burping, upset stomach
Antimetics (3) Compazine, Dramamine, Phenergan
When do you give Antimetics? 1 hour before exposure to motion
Contraindication for Antimetics Dont give to pregnant women- can cause damage to fetus
what household remedies can treat nausea (4) coca cola,warm tea, toast, saltine crackers

simple diarrhea is most often due to? poor eating habits
Diahrrhea and constipation can be caused by: improper food intake
Amphetamines used to be used for? weight loss
Amphetamines should be taken ac/pc?What should be avoided while on Amphetamines and what should be monitored? PC. Avoid beverages containing caffeine ie:cola soda,coffee,tea. Have bl pressure taken on regular basis monitoring for any increase in BP
