TermDefinition
Clip A brief recorded file, linked to a website or to an electronic message, used to relay audible information from one user to another.
Track An audio signal communications channel in a storage device, used in operations such as multi-track recording.
Decibel (dB) Unit used to measure the intensity of a sound.
Effect Artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes used to emphasize artistic or other content of musics.
Noise The residual low-level sound (four major types: hiss, rumble, crackle, and hum) that is heard in quiet periods of program.
Sample Rate The number of samples of audio carried per second, measured in Hz or kHz (one kHz being 1 000 Hz)
Export To save (documents, data, etc.) in a format usable by another software program.
WAV, AIFF, MP3 Different type of audio files you can save as.
AUP (Acceptable use policy) document stipulating constraints and practices that a user must agree to for access to a corporate network or the Internet
Amplify Increase the volume.
Hertz (Hz) The SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second.
LAME An encoder that converts audio to the MP3 file format
Mixing The process by which multiple sounds are combined into one or more channels
Pitch The degree of highness or lowness of a tone.
Podcast a digital audio or video file or recording, usually part of a themed series, that can be downloaded from a website to a media player or computer
Trim a knob that's used to adjust the level of the input signal as it enters the home recording sound mixer
