Pre, Suf, Roots

Prefixes, Suffixes, Root Words, and some big words I really like.

Asphyxiation (Suffix ion/ian) The state or process of being deprived of oxygen. As a child, Jane almost died due to asphyxiation.
Insufferable (Prefix in/im) Intolerable Ronan was the most insufferable person She had ever met.
Psychosis (Root psych) A mental disorder in which thought and emotion are impaired, so all contact with reality is lost. Richard suffered from a severe case of psychosis.
Malnutrition (Prefix mal) Lack of proper nutrition caused by lack of food or not eating a healthy diet. The dog had been suffering from malnutrition for weeks, but after being rescued from the home was now very healthy.
Unification (Prefix uni) The process of being united or made whole. The unification of the two towns was finally coming into the last stages of planning.
Intergalactic (Prefix inter) Between two galaxies. Space travel was finally becoming intergalactic, and people would be able to exit the Milky Way.
Benediction (Prefix bene) The utterance of good wishes; a prayer. Her soft benediction gave way to a large grin as she bid him farewell.
Navigable (root nav) Passable; suitable for transportation The passage was clearly navigable, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Cislunar (Root luna) Between the earth and the moon The satellite was broken, and pieces of it were now cislunar.
Corporeal (Root corp) Of having a body. As a ghost, Noah did not have a corporeal form, but until then no one had been able to tell.
Circumnavigate (prefix circum) To sail all the way around something. Ferdinand Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the earth.
Annexationist (suffix ist) theory or practice of taking over someone's country, especially by force. Many times in Earth's history, there were annexationist movements.
Sensible (prefix sens/sent) In accordance with wisdom or prudence. Adam was a sensible person, and was always working hard.
Speculative (root spec) Engaged in or expressing conjecture rather than knowledge. Matthew was always a bit more speculative than the rest of the group.
Dictatorial (prefix dict) Of or typical of a ruler with power. The way Maura spoke was rather dictatorial.
Irresolute (root word sol/soli) Showing hesitance. She was irresolute in giving away the answer; morally, it felt wrong.
Equilibrium (Prefix equi/equa) State in which opposing forces are balanced. The war was at a standstill; it was pure equilibrium.
Agribusiness (Prefix agri) The business of agricultural production. Kent Feeds was a big name in agribusiness.
Duralumin (Prefix dur) A hard, light alloy of aluminum with copper and other elements. As an engineer, Adam dealt with duralumin frequently.
Fluorescing (Root word sci) Glowing due to flourescence. The orb was strangely fluorescing enough to light the room.
Abrasive (suffix ive) Showing little concern for other's feelings; harsh. Ronan's abrasive nature tended to drive people away.
Lunette (suffix et/ette) Arched aperture or window, usually in a domed ceiling. Sunlight streamed though the lunette, casting a glow throughout the room.
Audacious (Prefix aud/audi) Willingness to take bold risks. Harry had some audacious behaviors, and tended to get in frequent trouble.
Abductee (suffix ee) Someone who has been abducted. Henry had once been an abductee and taken hostage by two men.
Hydrokinesis (prefix hydro) Being able to control water via the mind. Hydrokinesis is a power many people aspire to have.
Aliped (root ped) Having interconnected toes by a membrane (like a bat). The aliped was undentifiable; perhaps it was a new species.
Abscond (Prefix ab) To run away, usually to escape some kind of crime. After gambling, he was left with such a large debt he was forced to abscond.
