| dinky | small and unimportant |
| insinuating | suggesting, implying |
| merchandise | things that are for sale; manufactured goods; stock |
| reed | mouth piece for an instrument |
| outhouses | small building outside with a hole and a seat for using bathroom; toilet (crapper) |
| pulse | heart beat |
| spirit | the thinking, motivating and feeling part of a man. |
| scales | a series of tones arranged in a sequence of rising and falling pitches; range of notes |
