Term | Definition |

statistical question | a question that has multiple answers |
mean | single value that is the average of the data |
measures of center | mean, median, and mode: they describe the center of a set of data |
mode | the number that appears most often |
median | the middle number |
measures of variation | used to describe the distribution, or spread of the data |
quartiles | values that divide the data into four equal parts |
First and Third Quartiles (Q1 and Q3) | medians of the data values less than the median and data values greater than the median |
Interquartile Range (IQR) | The distance between the first and third quartiles of the data set. |
Range | The difference between the greatest and least data values |
Outlier | data value that is wither much greater or much less than the median (1.5 times the IQR) |
