| statistical question | a question that has multiple answers |
| mean | single value that is the average of the data |
| measures of center | mean, median, and mode: they describe the center of a set of data |
| mode | the number that appears most often |
| median | the middle number |
| measures of variation | used to describe the distribution, or spread of the data |
| quartiles | values that divide the data into four equal parts |
| First and Third Quartiles (Q1 and Q3) | medians of the data values less than the median and data values greater than the median |
| Interquartile Range (IQR) | The distance between the first and third quartiles of the data set. |
| Range | The difference between the greatest and least data values |
| Outlier | data value that is wither much greater or much less than the median (1.5 times the IQR) |
