Chapter 10

TermDefinition
statistical question a question that has multiple answers
mean single value that is the average of the data
measures of center mean, median, and mode: they describe the center of a set of data
mode the number that appears most often
median the middle number
measures of variation used to describe the distribution, or spread of the data
quartiles values that divide the data into four equal parts
First and Third Quartiles (Q1 and Q3) medians of the data values less than the median and data values greater than the median
Interquartile Range (IQR) The distance between the first and third quartiles of the data set.
Range The difference between the greatest and least data values
Outlier data value that is wither much greater or much less than the median (1.5 times the IQR)
