Argument Writing

QuestionAnswer
Ethos Ethics and credibility. Remind audience why you are a person to believe. Use correct grammar and very your sentence structure.
Pathos Use of emotion. Use descriptive language and imagery. Use personal stories. Identify values and emotions that will relate to the audience.
Logos Logic. Use research and statistics to back up your arguments. Use logical processes. Give convincing, solid evidence.
Rhetoric The art of effective speaking or persuasive writing.
Exigence What is going on in the real world that leads to the author's argument. An issue or problem or situation that causes or prompts someone to write or speak.
Author's Purpose The reason an author writes. What's the goal of the author or speaker.
Audidence Refers to the listeners at a speech or the readers of the article. Writers ask themselves, 'Who am I writing this for?'
Counter Argument/Counterclaim Acknowledging the opposite side of your argument. Expresses the view of a person who disagrees with your position.
Claim The thesis statement that arises from a question which is turn rises the examination of information and data.
Evidence: Support or Proof Sufficient. Enough of. Relevant. Necessary or important pertains to topic. Irrelevant. Not necessary or important
Warrants Explanation of how the evidence supports the claim. A rule.
