Why did Bud want to go to Grand Rapids? To try and find his father.
What could happen to a young black boy walking the Michigan streets in the middle of the night in the 1930s? He could be arrested if the police finds him, kidnapped, hurt, sign that said No Black People.
Who stopped to pick up Bud as he walked towards Grand Rapids and also what was this person's nickname? Mr. Lewis (lefty) picked Bud up and feeds him.
What does Bud do as soon as he gets inside the car? Bud locks the door, puts the car in gear and gets jack knife out.
What bribe did the driver use to get Bud into his car? The driver used food to bribe him. (pop, apple and sandwich)
Why did Bud think the driver of the car was a vampire? Side of car said "Careful carries real human blood"; Bottles of blood in his car.
What was the driver of the car actually delivering and to where? The driver was delivering blood to the hospital for someone to have surgery (operation).
Who feeds Bud breakfast in the morning? Mrs. Sleet, Mr. Lewis, Kim, Scott
Who are Scott and Kim? They are Mr. Lewis' grandkids and Mrs. Sleet's kids.
What is a Redcap and what is a Pullman Porter? Redcap is someone who helps people with luggage on a train. Pullman Porter is someone who helps on the train.
Why does Mrs. Sleet "whop" her dad on the head with a wooden spoon? Mrs. Sleet whopped her father on the head because he was making fun of her (pancakes).
What kind of seed does Bud compare to his idea of finding his father? maple seed
How many stones does Bud have in his tobacco pouch? 5 stones
What smell always reminded Bud of his Momma? The smell of blanket.
What are Bud's three favorite sayings? 1) woop, zoop, sloop 2) Kiss my wrist 3) Jack Robinson
Why was Mr. Lewis afraid of the policeman pulling him over on the highway? Mr. Lewis was afraid of the copper because he had a box of flyers that were dangerous. He was afraid being caught doing union work.
