QuestionAnswer
Mood How the subject makes the reader feel.
Tone The author's attitude towards his or her subject.
Apostrophe A device in which and object, abstract quality, or absent or imaginary person is addressed as if present and able to understand. Used to express powerfull emotions.
Imagery Words and phrases and that create vivid sensory expiriences for the reader.
Similie A comparison using "like" or "as".
Metaphor A direct or implied comparison.
Personification Describing inatimate objects with human characteristics.
Onomatopeia Literally "Name-making"-- Creating or using words that imitate sounds.
Alliteration The repition of initial constant sounds.
Hyperbole A figure of speech in which the thruth is exaggerated for emphasis or for a humerous effect.
Allusion Reference to a familiar person, place, or event.
Irony Contrast between what is expected and what acctaully happens.
Symbolism A person, place, or object to represent an idea.
