| gist | noun, the essential part, main point, or essence |

| subject | the subject is who or what does the verb in a sentence, WHO THE SENTENCE IS ABOUT |
| predicate | modifies the subject, tells something about the subject |
| prepositional phrase | a prepositional phrase will begin with a preposition and end with the "object" of the preposition. AT HOME, IN TIME |
| simple sentence | contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought. |
