| weathering | breaking down of rock |
| erosion | movement of rocks or sediments |
| deposition | dropping off of rocks or sediments |
| U shaped valley | caused by glaciers |
| V shaped valley | caused by rivers |
| canyon | special type of valley (deeper) in between mountains caused by a river weathering and eroding rock over time |
| valley | low area between hills often with a river running through it |
| delta | fan like deposition of sediments at the mouth of a river |
| plateau | level or flat ground |
| water, wind, and ice | causes of weathering or the breaking down of rocks |
| chemical weathering | weathering caused by chemicals such as acid rain which chemically change the substance |
| mechanical (physical) weathering | breaking down of rock due to water, wind, or ice which simply make the rock smaller (boulder, pebble, gravel, sand, clay) but keep the same properties |
| sand compared to water | more dense (why it sinks) |
| clay compared to water | less dense (why it floats) |
| igneous rock | formed from volcanoes (cooling off of lava) |
| metamorphic rock | formed from Pressure and Heat |
| sedimentary rock | formed from breaking down of rock (ex: boulders, pebbles, gravel, sand) |
