Parallel Lines Cut

Parallel Lines Cut by transversal (definitions)

TermDefinition
Corresponding Angles Angles in the same position at each intersection where the transversal crosses the two parallel lines. Same position, different parallel line. Angle Measurements are congruent.
Vertical Angles Each of the pairs of opposite angles made by two intersecting lines. Formed from an "x." Angles are congruent.
Congruent Have the same angle measurement.
Supplementary Angles Two angles whose sum is 180 degrees.
Linear Pair Two angles next to each other formed by two intersecting lines. These angles create a line (180 degrees)
Alternate interior Angles The pairs of angles on opposite sides of the transversal but inside the two lines. Inside the "box." Alternate=opposite. Angle measures are congruent.
Alternate exterior Angles The pairs of angles on opposite sides of the transversal but outside the two lines. Outside of the box. Alternate=opposite. Angle measures are congruent.
Same side interior Angles Two lines that are parallel are intersected by a transversal line, angles inside the box on the same line. The two angles' sum is 180 degrees.
Same side exterior Angles When parallel lines are cut by a transversal line, the angles on the same side, but outside the box. The two angles' sum is 180 degrees.
