Unit 5 Vocabulary

Math vocabulary for Unit 5 in EDM.

equivalent fraction fractions that name the same number
common denominator for two or more fractions, a number that is a multiple of both or all denominators
factor two or more numbers that are multiplied to give a product
multiple a product of some number, n, and a counting number
unit fraction a fraction whose numerator is one
product the result of multiplying two or more numbers, called factors
area model a model for multiplication problems in which the length and width of a rectangle represent the factors, and the area of the rectangle represents the product
dimensions a measurable value such as length, width, or height
horizontal in a left-to-right orientation lined up with the horizon
vertical upright; perpendicular to the horizon
algorithm a set of step-by-step instructions for doing something, such as carrying out a computation or solving a problem
quotient the result of dividing one number by another number
dividend the number in division that is being divided
divisor in division, the number that divides another number
