Noun | Person, place, thing or idea. |
Common Noun | Names a general noun; begins with a lower case letter. (Ex: city) |
Proper Noun | Names a specific noun; begins with a capital letter. (Ex: Detroit) |
Possessive Noun | A noun showing ownership. (Ex: Girl's) |
Pronoun | Takes the place of a noun. |
Personal Pronoun | (Ex: 1st Person: Me, 2nd Person: You, 3rd Person: Everyone else.) |
Interrogative Pronoun | Asks a question. (Ex: Which? Whose? What? Whom? Who?) |
Demonstrative Pronoun | Demonstrates which one. (Ex: This, that, these, those.) |
Indefinite Pronoun | Doesn't refer to a definite person or thing. (Ex: Each, either, neither, few, some, all, most, several, few, many, more, none, one, someone, no one, everyone, anyone, somebody, nobody, everybody, anybody, more, much another, both, any, other, etc.) |
Relative Pronoun | Starts adjective dependent clauses. (Ex: That, which, who, whom, whose.) |
Reflexive Pronoun | Reflects back to "self". (Ex: yourself, himself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves. |
Adverb | Modifies Adjectives, verbs and other adverbs. Tells How? When? Where? To what extent? |
Adjective | Modifies nouns and pronouns. Tells Which One? How many? What kind? |
Proper Adjective | Proper noun used as an adjective (Ex: American Flag). |
