Matter and Mixtures Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Mixture 2 or more materials mixed together
Property a characteristic of an object, something you can observe such as size, color, shape or texture
Soulution a special mixture formed when a material dissolves in water
Dissolving a process in which 1 material disperses uniformly into another material, so that the first material seems to disappear
Evaporation causes liquid too dry up. The liquid turns to gas and disappears into the air, leaving any dissolved solid material behind
Crystal the solid form of a material that can be identified by it's properties such as shape, color, or pattern
Physical Change a change in the appearance of matter
Gas The atoms in a gas are spread out and move freely
Liquid The atoms in a liquid are close together. They slide around
Solid The atoms in a solid are packed closely together. They bond together and do not change shape.
