math fraction vocabulary chapter 6

TermDefinition
numerator the top number of the fraction that shows how many parts are in a whole you have.
denominator the number below the line in a fraction . it tells the number of equal parts into which a whole is divided.
mixed fractions a fraction that includes wholes and parts
factor the whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product. example 2 x 4 are factors of 8
multiple A multiple of a number is that number multiplied by an integer. For examples, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are multiples of 2.
fractions A multiple of a number is that number multiplied by an integer. For examples, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are multiples of 2.
benchmark A number such as 0, 1/2, or 1 whole that help with estimating. Example: 4/5 is closer to 1 whole.
common denominator Denominators in two or more fractions that are the same.
Equivalent Fraction Fractions that have the same value.
Simplest Form A fraction is in simplest form when the greatest common factor of the numerator and denominator is 1. Example: 3/9 in simplest form is 1/3
