| atmosphere | the dominant mood or feeling of literary work |
| static character | a character who does not experience any personal growth |
| dynamic character | a character who experiences personal growth |
| flat character | character with only one or two traits |
| round character | character with many traits,sometimes these are conductary |
| secondary | any character other than the main character |
| characterization | the method of a writer to reveal the characters personality |
| direct characterization | the writer tells the reader specific details about the character |
| indirect characterization | the writer shows you what the character is like through the character's actions or words |
| motivation | the reason(s) a character does something |
| external conflict | a character's struggles against an outside force |
| internal conflict | a character struggle within himself (in his mind) |

| antagonist | a person or force working against the protagonist in literary work |
| character | a person or animal portrayed in a literary work |
| conflict | the struggle between opposing characters of forces in a work of literature |
| foreshadowing | giving hints about what is going to happen in the story |
