What is the continental drift theory about? Wegener believed that at one time all of the continents were one super continent named Pangea.
What were 3 of the 4 pieces of evidence Wegener had to support his theory? 1- Parts of continents appear to have once been connected 2- Plants and fossils were discovered on different parts of continents 3- Mountains very close in age; created at the same time 4- Ice sheets were discovered in hot climates
Why are volcanoes, mountains and earthquakes created on the plate boundaries? Plate boundaries are where the tectonic plates push and pull against each other; the pushing of the plates create mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes
What famous Canadian mountains were created because of tectonic plates? The Appalachian Mountains
How many large tectonic plates are there? 8 (Eurasian, Indian, Pacific, North American, South American, African, Nazca and Antarctic)
What are the parts of the earth? Inner core, outer core, mantle, astenosphere, crust, hydrosphere
What are the 3 "spheres" of our earth? Hydrosphere, Astenosphere, Lithosphere
Name all 7 landform regions of Canada Innuitian Mountains, Arctic Lowlands, Western Cordillera, Interior Plains, Canadian Shield, St. Lawerence
