| What geographic features worked to isolate the Huang He River Valley? | To the north - the Gobi Desert, to the west - the Taklimakan Desert, to the southwest - the Himalay Mountains, to the east the sea leading to the Pacific Ocean. |
| Loess | A fine, dustlike material that blows from the Gobi Desert into the Huang He River which then floods leaving this material behind and forming the fertile farmland. |
| Dikes | Walls created to hold back water during the annual flooding |
