Nucleus | The central core of an atom containiing protons and usually neutrons. |
Proton | A small, positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom. |
Electron | A tiny, negatively charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom. |
Nuetron | A small particle in the nucleus of an atom, with no elctrical charge. |
Atom | The basic particle from which all elements are made. |
Atomic Number | The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. |
Mass Number | The sum of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. |
Isotope | An atom with the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons from other atoms of the same element. |
Atomic Mass | The average mass of all the isotopes of an element. |
Periodic Table | a table of the chemical elements arranged in order of atomic number, usually in rows, so that elements with similar atomic structure |
Chemical Symbol | A one- or two-letter representation of an element. |
Periods | A horizontal row of elements in the periodic table. |
Groups | Elements in the same vertical column of the periodic table, also called the family. |
Metal | A class of elements characterized by physical properties that include shininess, maleabilidad, ductility, and conductivity. |
Nonmetal | An element that lacks most of the properties of a metal. |
Mettaloid | An element that has some characteristics of both metals and nonmetals. |
Matter | Anything that has mass and occupies space. |
Solid | A state of matter that has a definite shape and definite volume. |
Liquid | A state of matter that has no definite shape but has a definite volume. |
Gas | A state of matter with no definite shape or volume. |
