Figurative Language and Literary Devices (6th grade English)

simile comparing two very different things, using like or as.
metaphor comparing two very different things, without like or as.
hyperbole an extreme exaggeration.
personification giving human qualities to non-human things.
alliteration repeating the first letter or sound.
onomatopoeia a word-sound.
