| Hyperbole | an exaggeration made for effect |
| Dialect | language of people of a particular location |
| Onomatopoeia | words that sound like what they name |
| Analogy | comparison of the similarities between two otherwise dissimilar things, usually formed by showing their relationship |
| Rhyme | the repetition of sounds at the ends of words |
| Alliteration | repetition of sound at the beginning of words |
| Repetition | when a word is used several times |
| Sensory Details | describing look, sound, smell, taste, or feel |
| Smile | a comparison using the words "like" or "as" |
