QuestionAnswer
What are the seven dysarthria's? Flaccid, Spastic, Ataxic, UUMN, Hypokinetic, Hyperkinetic, & Mixed
Flaccid Dysarthria presents with ? Breathy phonation, hypernasality, shallow breathing & abnormal prosody
Spastic Dysarthria presents with ? Harsh "strangled" phonation, imprecise consonants, hypernasality, & abnormal prosody
Ataxic Dysarthria presents with ? "Drunken" quality, problems controlling timing & force. Imprecise consonants and distorted vowels, irregular articulatory breakdowns.
What does UUMN Dysarthria stand for ? Unilateral Upper Motor Neuron Dysarthria
UUMN Dysarthria presents with ? Imprecise consonants, irregular articulatory breakdowns or harsh vocal quality.
Hypokinetic Dysarthria presents with? A reduction in range and speed of speech movements, harsh or breathy phonation, imprecise consonants and abnormal prosody.
Hyperkinetic Dysarthria presents with ? Involuntary movements that interfere with speech production. Unexpected inhalations/exhalations, irregular articulatory breakdown and abnormal prosody.
Mixed Dysarthria presents with? Symptoms that include any combination of the six "pure" dysarthria's.
Flaccid dysarthria is usually the result of .... damage to cranial nerves, spinal nerves, or the neuromuscuar junction
Spastic dysarthria is usually the result of... Bilateral damage to upper motor neurons of pyramidal and extrapyramidal system (Brain strokes)
Ataxic dysarthria is usually the result of... Damage to the cerebellum or to neural tracts connecting cerebellum to CNS.
UUMN dysarthria is usually the result of ... Unilateral damage to upper motor neurons
Hypokinetic dysarthria is usually the result of... Reduction of dopamine in basal ganglia; Parkinson's is most common cause.
Hyperkinetic dysarthria is usually the result of... Damage to basal ganglia, sometimes unknown cause.
