sample space | the set of all possible outcomes of an experiment. |
population | The whole group from which a sample is taken |
inferences | Inference is the act or process of deriving logical conclusions from premises known or assumed to be true. The laws of valid inference are studied in the field of logic |
representative sample | a small quantity of something that accurately reflects the larger entity. An example is when a small number of people accurately reflect the members of an entire population. |
variation/variability distribution | refers to how spread out a group of data is. The common measures of this are the range, variance, and standard deviation. |
measures of center | (A measure of central tendency) a value that attempts to describe a set of data by identifying the central position of the data set (as representative of a "typical" value in the set). We are familiar with measures called the mean, median and mode. |
random sampling | a method of selecting a sample from a statistical population in such a way that every possible sample that could be selected has a predetermined probability of being selected |
