Balancing Equations

EXTRA POINTS!!!!!!!!!!

QuestionAnswer
Law Of Conservation of Mass The fundamental principle of mass that mass cannot be created or destroyed in a closed system through ordinary chemical or physical means.
Reactant The substances present before a chemical reaction occurs; in a chemical reaction the arrow usually points away from the reactant.
Product the substances that are formed during a chemical chemical reaction, the arrow points toward the product.
Ionic Bond A chemical bond in which are atom gives up electrons to another atom gives that gains the elements.
Covalent Bond A chemical link between two atoms that share electrons.
Compound A chemical combination of two or more elements.
Subscript A symbol, usually a letter or a number, placed; immediately below and to the right of a written character.
Coefficent The number placed in front of a chemical formula to indicates the number of a molecules present.
Balanced Chemical Equation A mathematical representation of a process, contains chemical formula and coefficient.
Chemical Formula A set of symbols used to describe the elements within a substance.
Covalent Bond . Forms when atoms share electrons .They form between two nonmetals
Ionic Bond .Forms when atoms gain or lose electrons. .Positive Ion=Lose Electrons .Negative Ion= Gain Electrons Forms between Metals and Nonmetals
Step 1 Count the numbers of atoms on each element on both sides.
Step 2 See if the Equation is balanced or Unbalanced
Step 3 Change the coefficent until the equation is balanced
C No subscript means a understood one
Co2 Subscript means how many atoms are presented.
Mg(OH)2 When the subscript is outside anything inside the parenthesis will be multiplied by that number.
3(OH)2 When the subscript and the coefficent are outside the parenthesis every element will be multiplied by the 1st coefficent.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
