Deserts and Tundras

This is a review for the 3rd grade LCEU deserts and tundra test.

QuestionAnswer
desert It is a habitat that is dry with little rainfall. It is usually hot during the day and cooler at night.
tundra/polar lands It is a habitat that is dry with little rainfall. It is cold all year long.
polar animals arctic fox; polar bear; penguins; arctic seal
desert animals snakes, lizards, ants, desert hare (rabbit); turtle
blubber a fatty layer under the skin of many animals that live in the tundra that helps to keep them warm
camouflage blending in with an environment in order to be able to hide from predators or sneak up on prey
producer makes its own foods (plants)
consumer eats plants and/or animals
desert plant adaptations waxy skin; long shallow roots
tundra plant adaptations dark colors
carnivore eats meat only
herbivore eats plants only
omnivore eats plants and animals
nocturnal when an animal sleeps during the day and is active at night
migration when an animal moves to warmer climates during the winter to find food
adaptations something that helps a plant or animal survives in its environment
predator one who hunts
prey the hunted
decomposers break down dead plants and animals and returns nutrients to the soil
food chain the flow of energy in a habitat
desert animal adaptations nocturnal; large ears to release heat
tundra animal adaptations blubber; camouflage; migration
