Essay Structure

Layout of an argumentative essay

QuestionAnswer
First paragraph of your essay Introduction
Paragraph that gives the history and any other knowledge needed to understand your topic Background paragraph
Paragraph which gives your main points, often many of them Supporting Points
Paragraph that states the opposite argument and shows why it's wrong Counterargument paragraph
Last paragraph, restates your thesis and give a SO WHAT? to your paper Conclusion
The first paragraph of your essay Introduction
The last paragraph of your essay Conclusion
1st body paragraph in your essay Background paragraph
