Rhetorical Devices

English

QuestionAnswer
Repetition. A word or phrase used more than once.
Ethos. A type of advertising that uses ethical reasoning and credibility to persuade you. (Ex: "As the president....", celebrities)
Logos. A type of advertising that uses facts and logic to persuade you. (Ex: charts and graphs)
Pathos. A type of advertising that uses your emotions to persuade you. (Ex: kids and animals)
Juxtaposition. Contrasting two things or people to highlight their dramatic differences (Ex: deep depths of slavery to the light hills).
Allusion. A reference to someone or something well known or famous.
Diction. Word choice. (Ex: strutted instead of walk)
Syntax. Sentence structure (Ex: punctuation, sentence length).
Rhetorical questions. Questions that don't require an answer.
Tone. Author's attitude towards the topic they are discussing shown through wording and details.
