Vocabulary for Equations and Inequalities

TermDefinition
Inequality A mathematical sentence containing one of the symbols ≤ , ≥ , < ,>.
Equation A pair of equivalent expressions. To solve, perform the inverse operation to both sides of the equal sign
Inverse The opposite operation used to solve equations
Term A constant or the product of a coefficient and a variable
Variable A letter or symbol used to represent a quantity that varies
Fewer Than < (less than)
below < (less than)
younger than < (less than)
more than > (greater than)
above > (greater than)
older than > (greater than)
at most ≤ (less than or equal to)
no more than ≤ (less than or equal to)
at least ≥ (greater than or equal to)
no less than ≥ (greater than or equal to)
