4. What is a quarry and what 2 products come from it? A quarry is a large, open pit cut into the ground, from which stone is mined and 2 products are granite and marble .
5. What did Katherine Lee Bates do? Wrote “America the Beautiful”
6. In 1500, why did only Native Americans Live in the Northeast? The European people had not yet started to immigrate to North America yet because explorers were just starting to figure out what the area was like.
7. Who was Deganawida and what did he do? He was the Iroquois leader that worked with Hiawatha to convince 5 Iroquois tribes to work together for peace and form a confederation.
8. Which group formed the first confederation in North America? Iroquois
9. Who was Henry Hudson and what did he do? English explorer that traveled along the Northeast coast
10. When did England start 8 colonies in the Northeast? 1600s
11. How might a harbor and a port be related? A harbor is a protected area of water where ships can dock safely, and a port is a trading center where goods are put onto and taken off ships so they are both places for ships
12. Who was George Washington and what did he do? Leader of the American army and first U.S. President
13. What were one cause and one effect of the American Revolution? Cause: _Colonists were being taxed by Britain without representation Effect:__The United States became an independent nation.
14. Who was Thomas Edison and what did he do? opened world’s first electric power plant and invented light bulbs
15. What were three changes that occurred during the Industrial Revolution? 1. Machines powered by water changed to steam power_ 2. First electric power plant opened. 3. Inventions such as light bulb and telephone
16. During the 1800s and early 1900s, what caused Northeastern cities to grow crowded? Millions of immigrants came to the United States and stayed in the Northeast to work in factories.
