point of view The narrators position in relation to the story being told; First person,second person,third person limited,third person omniscient,third person objective
Context clues hints hidden within a sentence,paragraph, or text.
authors purpose the reason the author writes.
Tone The attitude of an author torward a subject or audience
mood feelings evoked in the reader as a reaction to the atmosphere around the writing
theme the moral or lesson of the story
symbolism the use of symbols to signify ideas by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from the literal sense
suspense a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen
flashback moments identified by the author that relate to previous events
foreshadowing clues by the author that hint to later events
