Urban Definition: relating to cities or towns. Sentence: New York was filled with buildings and abandoned alley-ways.
Rural Definition: relating to the countryside or farmlike area. Sentence: The countryside has vast green plains and wheat trims around the area.
Industrialization Definition: changing from an agricultural business to a manufactoring business. Sentence: Industrialization was used when people wanted to stop using shears to cut their grass and start using something more productive.
Immigrant Definition: a person who moves to a foreign country. Sentence: The immigrant traveled to America not having barely any clothes, the right currency or any experience in jobs besides farming.
Ellis Island Definition: a immigration station in the harbor of New York City. Sentence: Ellis Island was helpful to immigrants to provide transportation so the foreign people can move.
Oppressive Governments Definition: a unfair or cruel dictatorship on people. Sentence: The oppressive government stated that the people of the small town had to pay extra money with the electric bill.
Ethnic Definition: a national or cultural group relating to difference in race. Sentence: Many people have different races, ethnics, religion and culture they represent or celebrate.
Assimilation Definition: to adapt or fit in. Sentence: The Native Americans had to assimilate to having reservations even though the land was orginially theirs.
Cultural Conflict Definition: a conflict that occurs with differences in culture or beliefs. Sentence: There were many Cultural conflicts becuase people all have different religion, race and culture.
Chinese Exclusion Act Definition: a law signed by President Chester A. Arthur that restricts immigration of Chinese people. Sentence: Many Chinese people couldn't migrate because of the Chinese Exclusion Act.
Political Machine Definition: a boss comands a small group of workers to carry out jobs and are rewarded for their efforts. Sentence: The workers were awarded with money from the Political machine.
Boss Tweed Definition: an american politician who is the boss of the Democratic Party political machine. Sentence: William Magear Tweed was a boss tweed who lead an democratic party at Tammany Hall.
Political Corruption Definition: powers of the government officials for private and personal gainand uphold illegal acts. Sentence: The Political corruption gives illegal laws in private for own personal use.
Bribery Definition: giving money or something valuable in exchange for the person to not spill his or her secret or plot. Sentence: The girl used bribery to get herself out of the jewelry crime at school.
Tenement Definition: property that is located in apartments or in rundown parts of a city. Sentence: The tenement was run down and crust was appearing on the side of the white dingy walls.
Ghetto Definition: a slum isolated area owned by a group. Sentence: The ghetto neighborhood was filled with graffiti around the brick walls.
Settlement House Definition: a area providing education, social services and education to the people. Sentence: Settlement houses gave education to immigrants so that way when the immigrants moved to another continent they know the language.
Jane Addams Definition: a woman pioneer who was in the suffrage movement and was a social worker, public philosopher, sociologist, author, and leader. Sentence: Jane Addams helped accomandate world peace and she lead in the suffrage movement.
Hull House Definition: a settlement house in Chicagoo Illnois that is opened to European Immigrants. Sentence: Many European immigrants settled in hull houses.
Urbanization Definition: becoming more cities or towns and growing over to other areas. Sentence: Urbanization was improving rapidly and grassy plains and trees were cut down to build more space.
