How does "kerosene" relate to the story? Billie Jo's dad left a pot of kerosene by the stove. Ma thought hot water and poured into coffee. Starts a fire. She ran to get Dad. Billie Jo tossed out door with her bare hands. Her pregnant mom was coming into the door. She got hit with the kerosene.
How does "moonshine" relate to the story? Ashby Durwin and Rush get caught with a load full of the illegal stuff. Among it, the sheriff finds a thousand pounds of sugar. He gives it to Miss Freeland who makes custard, cobbler, cakes, cookies, pies, and something called apple pandowdy.
How does "family photo" relate to the story? When Billie Jo runs away, she meets an old man. When she wakes up, she finds the old man's family photo and returns home. She then mails it back to his wife to let her know that he is doing fine. She receives a thank-you letter.
How does "Joyce City" relate to the story? Billie Jo's family lives in Joyce City.
How does "Lubbock, Texas" relate to the story? Billie Jo's aunt, Aunt Ellis, lives in Lubbock, Texas.
How does "cranberry sauce" relate to the story? Billie Jo forgot to make cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving, but her mom never gave her the recipe before she passed away.
How does "Toronto, Canada" relate to the story? A photographer from the Toronto Star came and tried to photograph the drought and dust storms.
How does "Amarillo" relate to the story? Mad Dog was going to go to Amarillo to sing on the radio.
How does "funeral" relate to the story? Billie Jo and her father went to Grandma Lucas's funeral.
