Literary Devices

QuestionAnswer
1st person point of view Where the main character tells the story.
3rd person limited point of view the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of one characters
3rd person omniscient point of view is a method of story telling when the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings in the story
Allegory a representation of a spiritual meaning
Alliteration the commencement of two or more syllables of the word together with the same consonant sound or sound group
Antagontist A person who is actively opposes or hostile
Character A person or thing
Climax the highest or most intense point in the development
Exposition A large scale pubic exhibition or show
External conflict struggle between literary or dramatic character
Falling action parts of the story after the climax and before the end
Figurative Language that contains or uses figure of speech
Imagery the formation of mental images
internal conflict struggle within the mind of a literary or dramatic character
memoir a record of events written by a person
metaphor a comparison not using like or as
motivation the act or an instance on motivating
Onomatopia the formation of a word, such as BOOM and BANG
personification Giving human characteristics to non-humans
repetition the act of repeating, or doing, saying or writing something again
resolution the problem of the end of the story solved
rising action a related stories of incidents in a literary plot
setting the time, place, and conditions of a story
similie a comparison using like or as
theme a truth about life that can be learned
