| !st person POV | when a character in the story is telling the story. |
| 3rd person limited | The narrator only knows the thoughts and feelings of one character. |
| 3rd person Omniscient POV | The narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all the characters. |
| Allegory | A story that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning. |
| Alliteration | Repetition of the beginning consonant sounds. |
| Antagonist | The Villan of the story who get in the way of the protagonist. |
| Character | A person/thing in a story. |
| Climax | The turning point in a story where the character must make a decision about conflict. |
| Expostion | The beginning of the story where we meet the characters and find out the setting. |
| External Conflict | A struggle between a character and a outside force. |
| Falling Action | Where the problem of the story is being worked out. |
| Figurative language | The use of words with a meaning that is different than literal interpretation. |
| Foreshadowing | a warning about events coming up in a story. |
| Imagery | The use of language to create a picture in the reader's mind. |
| Internal Conflict | a struggle in a characters mind. |
| Memoir | a record of events written by a person having knowledge of them based on a personal observation. |
| Metophor | Using comparison without use like or as. |
| Motivation | a reason behind a person's actions |
| Onomatopoeia | Defines a word that imitates the natural word of a thing. |
| personification | A figure of speech in which a thing, and idea or an animal is giving human attributes. |
| Plot | A literary term used to describe the events that make up a story or the main part of a story. |
| Protagonist | A protagonist is the central character or leading figure in poetry, narrative, novel or any other story. |
| repetition | A literary device that repeats the same words over again, that makes the idea more clear. |
| Resolution | The problem of a story is worked out, the ending of the story. |
| rising action | Rising action is a plot in a series of relevant incidents that create suspense. |
| Settings | The setting of a piece of literature is the time and place in which the story takes place. |

| Theme | A truth about life that can be learned from the story, it is timeless.. |
