| 1st Person Point of View | where a character tells the story |
| 3rd Person Limited Point of View | the narrator only knows the thoughts and feelings of a character |
| 3rd Person Omniscient Point of View | when the narrator knows everything about everyone in the story |
| Allegory | something that can be interpretended to reveal a hidden meaning |
| Alliteration | the accurance of the same sound at the begining of closely connected words |
| Antagonist | a character or a group of characters which stand in opposition to the protagonist or the main character. |
| Character | a person or thing in a novel, play, or movie. |
| Climax | the turning point of action in the story |
| Exposition | Introduction of the story when we meet the characters and find out the setting. |
| External Conflict | a struggle between a person and aan outside force |
| Falling Action | when the problems are being worked out |
| Figurative Language | uses words with a meaning that is different than literal interpretation |
| Foreshadowing | A warning of future event |
| Imagery | descriptive language |
| Internal Conflict | a struggle in a characters mind |
| Memoir | a record of events written by a person having knowladge of them and based on personal observation |
| Metaphor | comparison without using like or as |
| Motivation | a reason behind a character's specific action or behavior |
| Onomatopoeia | the formation of a word from a sound associated with the meaning |
| Personification | a figure of speech in which a thing, an idea or an animal is given human attributes |
| Plot | The problem of a story |
| Protagonist | the central character or leading figure in poetry, narrative, novel or any other story. |
| Repetition | a literary device that repeats the same words or phrases to make an idea clearer |
| Resolution | the problem of a story is worked out or resolved |
| Rising Action | a series of events in the plot that create suspense, interest and tension |
| Setting | the time, place, and conditions of a story |
| Simile | a comparsion USING like or as |
| Theme | a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work that may be stated directly or indirectly. |
