Simile A figure of speech that makes a compariso between two unlike thingsusing the words "like or as"
Metaphor A figure of speech that makes acomparison between two unlike things without using the words " like or as"
Setting The place andtime inwhich the action of the story takes place. Example: morning
Foreshadowing A writer's use of hints or clues to indicate events and situations that will occur later in the plot
Imagery Consists of descriptive words and/or phrases that appeal to one of the five senses
Tone The attitude a writer takes towards th subject
Mood The feeling or atmosphere hat the writer creates in a story
Symbol A peron ,place ,and activily or an object that stands for something beyod itself
Suspense Howa reader feels when he/she becomes involved in a story and is eager to know the outcome of the plot. ( Example: a reader may feel excited or tense wating for the end of the story.)
Voice A writer's unique use of language that allows a reader to "hear" a personality in his\her writing
Conflict A struggle between two opposing forces in the plot
External Conflict when a charter is pitted against an outside force or physical obstacle
Internal Conflict A conflict that occurs within a character
Irony The contrast between appearance and reality
Characterization The method a writer uses to develop characters
