3. How did the Dred Scott decision reverse a previous decision made by Congress. The Supreme Court used this case to undo the Missouri Compromise.
5. Lincoln's Position during debates with Douglas "Real issue is between men who think slavery a wrong, and those who do not think it wrong. Republican Party thinks it is wrong." Also said slaves are not exactly equal to whites.
5. Douglas' Position during debates with Lincoln Believes slavery is wrong but the issue of slavery in territories can be decided by popular sovereignty, right of people in territories to vote.
6. Study the painting of the debate on page 447. What elements of the painting suggest the seriousness of the debate? Lincoln is standing up talking to a whole bunch of men about slavery. No one is smiling and Lincoln's quote says the U.S. can't last 1/2 free and 1/2 slave states.
