Numbers in Base 10 Vocabulary Words

| hundredth | one part of a whole that has been divided into 100 equal parts |
| thousandth | one part of a whole that has been divided into 1000 equal parts |
| expanded form | a way to show the value of each digit in a number |
| exponent | the number in a power that tells how many times to use the base as a factor |
| power of ten | a number that can be written as a product of tens |
| inverse | the opposite of something |
| expression | a group of numbers and symbols that shows a mathematical relationship |
| compare | to determine if one value is greater than, equal to, or less than another |
| division | an operation used to find the number in each group or the number of groups in equal-sized groups |
| multiplication | an operation used to find the total number of items in equal-sized groups |
| partial product | the result of multiplying the value in one place of a two- or three- digit number |
| factor | a number that is multiplied by another number |
| product | the result of multiplication |
| dividend | the number being divided in a division problem |
| divisor | the number being divided into a dividend in a division problem |
| quotient | the result of division |
| estimate | to find an answer that is close to the exact answer by rounding or using compatible numbers |
