Internet Basics
| Term | Definition |

| The Internet | A global network (WAN) connecting millions of computers. |
| The Web (World Wide Web) | A system of Internet servers that support specifically formatted (html) documents |
| Browser | A software program that allows Internet documents (like webpages) to be viewed, also called a Web Browser. |
| Search Engine | Programs that search documents for specified key words and returns a list of matching documents (ex. Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) |
| URL | An Internet address that uniquely identifies a node on the Internet |
| Domain | A unique name that identifies a specific location/computer on the Internet. |
| Webpage | A document on the Internet that is identified by a unique URL (uniform resource locator) |
| Website | A location (parent site) on the Internet |
| Electronic Mail – messages sent from one specific user to another using the Internet. | |
| Email Address | The way a specific user is identified so that they may receive email. An email address can be identified by the “@” sign. |
| Bandwidth | The amount of information that the Internet can handle in a given time. |
