Organelles

Nucleus The control center of the cell and the instructions for making proteins; structure is round in center of cell
Cell Membrane Controls what enters and leaves the cell. Protection, support, identification. Found in all cells; structure is a thin, flexible, porous surrounding the outside of the cell.
Cell Wall Plant cells. Protection and support ; structure is rigid and firm outer most layer of a plant cell
Mitochondria Transforms the chemical energy in food to a form of chemical energy the cell can actually use - ATD. structure is bean shaped with folds
Chloroplasts To capture solar energy and produce sugar from CO2 and H2O; structure is an oval disc/pancake shape with small dots or lines inside
Ribosomes Put together Amino Acids to make proteins from the instructions in DNA.
lysosomes digest molecules and destroy/recycle cell parts or organelles. cleanup crew ; structure is round/oval/ bag like
vacuoles storage of water, food, cell products or waste. they have a large central vacuole that stores water. structure is "bag like" ; much larger in plant cells; smaller and more than one in animal cells
cytoplasm contains the cell organelles ; structure jelly like substance
