TermDefinition
applied research is research undertaken to SOLVE a specific problem
chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes
conclusion is a judgement based on the information obtain
control a standard for comparison. It will always be the same when measured
dependent variable the change in response to a change in the independent variable (responding variable). Example velocity of an object on different rug types (y axis)
experiment is a set of controlled observations that test the hypothesis by changing on and test one variable at a time.
hypothesis is a tentative explanation for what has been observed....educated guess
independent variable is the variable that you plan to change (manipulated variable. The different rug types and measure the velocity changes with the different types (x axis)
mass is a measurement that reflects the amount of matter
matter is any that has mass and takes up space
model is a visual, verbal, and/or mathematical explanation of experimental data
pure research seeks to gain knowledge for the sake of knowledge itself
qualitative data the types of observations scientists fir makes containing information that describes color, odor, shape, or a physical characteristic.(5 senses)
quantitative data measurement or numerical information (example is amount)
scientific law a relationship in nature that is supported by many experiments.
scientific method is a systematic approach used in scientific study. An organized process used by scientists to do research and provide a method scientists to verify the work of other.
technology is the practical use of scientific information concerned with making improvements in human life and the world around us
theory is an explanation that has been supported by many many experiments
weight is a measure not only of the amount of matter but also the effect of Earth's gravitational pull on that matter

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
