| Algebraic expression | An expression that contains one or more variables. |
| Property | A rule or statement that is always true. |
| Variable | A letter used in place of a number. |
| Factor | Any numbers that are multiplied together to form a product. |
| Coefficient | The number the variable is being multiplied by. |
| Constant | Is a term that does not contain a variable. |
| Equation | Is a statement showing that two expressions are equal. |
| Commutative Property of Addition | For all real numbers a and b; a + b = b + a |
| Associative Property of Addition | For all real numbers a, b, and c; (a +b) + c = a + (b+c) |
| Distributive Property | For all real numbers a, b, and c; a(b+c) = ab + ac |
