Intro to Algebra

TermDefinition
Variable a letter or symbol that represents a quantity that can change.
Constant a quantity that does not change.
Algebraic Expression an expression (no equal sign) that contains one or more variables and may contain operation symbols.
Evaluate when you substitute a number for the variable and then find the value by simplifying.
Equation a mathematical statement that two expressions are equal.
Solution if a value for a variable makes an equation true, that value is a solution for the equation.
Inverse Operation operations that undo each other.
