| Organism | A living thing |
| Habitat | the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism |
| Biotic factor | living parts of a habitat |
| Abiotic | non-living parts of a habitat |
| Species: | Group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can mate and reproduce |
| Population | All members of one species living in an area |
| Community | All different populations that live together in an area |
| Ecosystem | All the living and nonliving things in an environment |
| Ecology: | The study of how organisms interact with each other and their environment |
| Mimicry | Art of imitating |
| Immigration | enter a population |
| Emigrate | leave a population |
| Natural Selection | organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring |
| Niche | specialized role of an organism in an environment |
| Competition | struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resources |
| Predator | An animal that hunts |
| Prey | An animal that is hunted |
| Symbiosis | relationship in which two species live closely together and at least one benefits |
| Mutualism | both species rely and benefit each other |
| Commensalism | only one species benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed |
| Parasitism | an organism that lives on or inside and eventually harms the host |
| Limiting factor | causes a population to stop growing or decrease in size |
| Carrying Capacity | largest amount that a population can support |
