Organism A living thing
Habitat the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism
Biotic factor living parts of a habitat
Abiotic non-living parts of a habitat
Species: Group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can mate and reproduce
Population All members of one species living in an area
Community All different populations that live together in an area
Ecosystem All the living and nonliving things in an environment
Ecology: The study of how organisms interact with each other and their environment
Mimicry Art of imitating
Immigration enter a population
Emigrate leave a population
Natural Selection organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring
Niche specialized role of an organism in an environment
Competition struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resources
Predator An animal that hunts
Prey An animal that is hunted
Symbiosis relationship in which two species live closely together and at least one benefits
Mutualism both species rely and benefit each other
Commensalism only one species benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed
Parasitism an organism that lives on or inside and eventually harms the host
Limiting factor causes a population to stop growing or decrease in size
Carrying Capacity largest amount that a population can support
