How many broken wires in a Running rope mean you have to remove the rope? | Six random broken wires in one rope lay, three broken wires in one strand in one lay. |

How many rope raps have to be on the drum when a load is at its lowest point? | Osha requires a minimum of two rope wraps to remain on the drum when load is at its lowest point. |
What is the correct method of measuring the diameter of wire rope? | At the Crown |
When does a change in rope diameter mean you have to remove the rope from service? | When the diameter of rope is reduced by 5% or more. |
What is a rope lay? | The distance it takes for a strand to make one complete revolution around the rope. |

How are wire ropes classified? | By a two number system for example 6X19. |
What does the first number mean in wire rope classification? | The first number mean the number of strands. |
What does the first number mean in wire rope classification? | The second number indicates the number of wires in each strand. |
What kind of wire rope is the most flexible? | The greater number of wires and smaller in diameter they are the more flexible they are. |
What is the problem with small diameter wires in the outer strands? | More flexible but less resistant to abrasion. |
What is Rotation -Resistant Rope? | The core strands are twisted in one direction and the outer strands are twisted in opposite direction. |
What is a sheave? | A pulley with a grooved wheel that helps the wire rope move freely. |
What happens when a sheave gets worn? | It damages the wire rope |
What is a proper end connection? | End of wire rope is attached to end connector or end is looped back on its self and attached to end connector. Do not tie off to main wire. |
What are Wedge Sockets? | It secures they end of a wire rope |
What is the correct method to set up a wedge socket? | Live end must be parallel to the straight side of the wedge socket. |
Were can wire rope clips NOT be used? | Do not use wire rope clips for boom hoist application. |
Which end of the wire rope does the saddle of rope clip touch? | The Saddle touches the live end of wire rope. |
Which end of the wire rope does the u bolt of rope clip touch? | It touches the dead end or bitter end. |
How can wire rope be damaged on a spool? | A bad wrap can cause rope damage. |
Does the spool and drum spin in same direction or in opposite direction when transferring rope from spool to drum? | They have to spin in the same direction. |
The drum flange must be how high above the rope? | At least half an inch or half the diameter above the rope. |
What type of replacement parts and attachments can you use? | All parts must follow manufacturer guidelines |
What is OSHA's general duty clause? | Require employers to keep job site free of unsafe conditions for their employees. |
