| What is a Character? | A person, animal or personified object in a story |
| What is Characterization? | NOT the description of the character, rather how the character is developed. (1) Showing character's appearance. (2) displaying characters action. (3) Revealing characters thoughts.(4) letting character speak. (5) getting reactions form others. |
| What is static? | is one who does not experience a basic character change during the course of the story. |
| What is Dynamic? | is one who experiences a basic change in character through the events of the story. |
| What is a Protagonist? | is the central character (person, animal, or personified object) in the plot. |
| What is Antagonist? | is the force in conflict with the protagonist. |
| What is Conflict? | the struggle between the protagonist and an opposing force. |
| What is an Internal Conflict(person verses self)? | occurs when the protagonist struggles within himself. |
| What is an External Conflict (person verses society)? | occurs outside the person, nature, society, other people. |
| What is Resolution? | conflicts are resolved. Concludes the action |
| What is the Point of view? | Angle in which the story is told. Narrator |
| What is the First Person Point of View? | A character is telling the story. "I" |
| What is second person point of view? | The narrator speaks to the reader. You walk in the room and what do you see? "You" |
| What is third person LIMITED point of view? | We are told the thoughts and feelings of only one character. "He/She/They" |
| What is third Person OMNISCIENT point of view/ | We are told everything about the story. He/She/They |
| What is the Plot? | The story line, what happens, sequence of events. |
| What is Exposition? | The introductory material which gives the setting, creates the tone, presents the characters. |
| What is the setting? | It includes the place and the time period in which the story takes place. |
| What is the rising action? | A series of events that builds from the conflict. It begins with inciting force and ends with the climax. |
| What is the Climax? | It is the high point of the story for the reader. |
| What is the Falling Action? | The events of the climax which close the story. |
| What is the Theme? | General idea that the writer wishes to express. |
| What should the theme never mention? | Do not mention the characters or the plot |
| What is the motivation? | The characters reason for behavior, feelings, or actions |
| What is the dialogue? | Conversation between the characters. |
| What is Irony? | The contrast between what is expected or what appears to be and what actually is. An unexpected twist. |
| What is dramatic Irony? | This occurs when the audience or reader knows more than the characters show. |
| What is Irony Situation? | This refers to a happening that is opposite of what is expected. |
| What is verbal Irony? | The contrast between what is said and what is actually meant. |
| What is flashback? | The action that interrupts to show an event that happened at an earlier time. |
| What is foreshadowing? | is the use of hints or clues to suggest what will happen later in the future. |
